Zappos.Com Case Essay Free Essays
1. Sources of competitive advantage lay in the field of their first offer. * First of all they provided a huge selection of styles, colors and sizes of shoes as it was one of the biggest problems of traditional retailers. We will write a custom essay sample on Zappos.Com Case Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now * At the first stage of their entering of the market, Zappos was the first-mover, which eventually supported its success as the market for on-line order of shoes was estimated to be about $2 billion. * High level of customer satisfaction was also one of the important factors to indicate proper operations of the Zappos. Company achieved such a success due to its corporate culture and a value of extreme concentration on its customers. In the retail business on of the indicators of retailer success is the level of customer return and Zappos succeed to attain this indicator on a very high level. Corporate culture was about delivering WOW effect through service and hiring people who were passionate about service was the most important concerns of the top-managers. This WOW effect was delivering through many ways: from the speed of site loading, all-round telephone support, allowance for 365 days of return, extensive information about the products and fast site loading. Thatââ¬â¢s why customers were willing to make purchases more often. In my opinion, service is a very important part of providing sustainable sales growth for the company as it creates an image of reliable company which operates in the internet and helps people to choose between traditional shopping and e-shopping. This image while managed properly was a sustainable competitive advantage for Zappos. As it was mostly mentioned features of a corporate culture which provide this competitive advantage than we can say that corporate culture is a background for it. 2. According to the position of the company to retain loyalty of the customers and provide WOW effect through service, it became more important to use UPS as a reliable logistics provider and organize 1-day air delivery with no extra price. Therefore, I can assume that reducing marketing costs for gaining new customers were the right decision as long-term partnership with previous customers was able to generate profit and new customers in the long run perspective. From another side, Zappos was able to keep transportation costs on the constant level partly from the scale of the collaboration with UPS (as it was mentioned, Zappos has become one of the top three UPS shippers). And as it was estimated, UPS ground shipping was able to reach only 11% of Zapposââ¬â¢ customer within 1 day. Knowing the fact that consumers got used to high qualitative and fast delivery, this could significantly harm the perception of the brand by loyal customers. This is the reason why company didnââ¬â¢t refuse to provide one-day air shipping. . First of all, we should understand that in situation of crisis people are decreasing their spending on high-end products if they previously had opportunities for that. Thatââ¬â¢s why it can be suggested, that company should concentrate more on mass market products and decrease costs while being very careful about scalable expansion. As it was mentioned in the case, Zappos searched for opportunities to improve its supply chain without harmful effect on customer satisfaction. From this point of view, company can concentrate more on retaining loyal customers and acquiring new customers partly by providing promotional discount actions, but at the same time keep prices on the same level, otherwise it can create a sense of discounter among Zappos clients. 4. The most important concern while expanding such business as Zappos is retaining this WOW effect. There are many factors which could affect this service oriented culture negatively, so that company should understand that rapid expansion in the situation of crisis can be very risky. From the other hand, there is no need to add more product to its product range as its already sell shoes, clothing, handbag, accessories, baby products, beauty, entertainment, eyewear, home, jewelry, sporting goods, and watches. In my opinion, company can diversify its businesses by developing other e-platforms with mentioning that they are powered by Zappos. That means that company could partly avoid risks connected with brand perception and increases sales level by selling more products. 5. The environment of a more cost-conscious consumer can harm the business if it wonââ¬â¢t be careful about its costs. The main idea here is to provide at least the same level of quality in service with constant rates. Zappos can lower transportation costs through developing closer relationships with transport companies (for ex. try to reduce shipment costs from UPS or use ground shipment when it wonââ¬â¢t extend delivery time). Company can also provide selective discounts (for ex. providing promotion discounts for loyal customers or creating encouraging promotional events). They could also take into consideration competitorsââ¬â¢ activities and offers in order to make sure that they provide the best prices or better opportunities for their clients. Zappos must take advantage of its other core competencies to ensure that the customer will choose to buy from Zappos as long as they are not paying more for the product. Probably, other variant to boost sales would be testing the system when customer have an opportunity to enjoy free shipping for a bit higher price, while company could gain profitability from a scope of the shipments. 6. First thing which comes to a mind is preserving Zapposââ¬â¢ corporate culture and brand on the same level as these things made Zappos that successful. In my opinion, it would be better to leave Zappos as an independent entity with its charismatic top-manager and founder Tony Hsieh while his forces led company to the leading position. Another thing to concern is a cost structure. One of the ways that Amazon tries to deliver a great customer experience is by offering low prices, whereas Zappos wasnââ¬â¢t ever been concentrated on price competition. This policy also shouldnââ¬â¢t be excluded from the Zappos future strategy as Zappos brand is more about service, but not a lowest price. Probably, another important step would be Zapposââ¬â¢ access to Amazonââ¬â¢ resources. They could be improvements and access to supply chain expertise, warehouses, suppliers and other advantages. Finally, Amazon could use Zappos for looking upmarket towards higher-priced goods. The high touch model obviously comes with higher costs. Itââ¬â¢s much more attractive when selling a $400 pair of boots than a $29 pair of flip-flops. Zappos has already been rapidly expanding their product offerings so greater sales of fashion items like handbags and wallets are already steps in this direction. The Role of the Bible in Christian Faith and Practice - Case Study on Genesis 34. free essay sample
To read the Bible for Christians is to interpret the Bible in their own contexts because myriad significant passages in the Bible could be diversely understood considering different cultures, languages, and authors or readers behind the Text. Thus, many church leaders have tried to interpret the Scripture throughout the history of Christianity. Many different methods of interpretation of the Bible have been introduced to us in many different contexts throughout the history, which has taught us diverse applications of Scripture up to present. In this sense, I think that the most important role of the Bible in Christian faith and practice lies in the fact that the Bible provides various perspectives for different Christians in different contexts. In this paper, I will discern major methods of interpretation of the Bible, and then find how they can be related to Christianââ¬â¢s faith and practice. During this semester, we spent a large amount of time having discussion on how to interpret Dinahââ¬â¢s story in Genesis 34. We read three dominant perspectives on this text: Fewell and Gunnââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"in front of the textâ⬠view, Sternbergââ¬â¢s primarily ââ¬Å"within the textâ⬠view, and Bechtelââ¬â¢s basically ââ¬Å"behind the textâ⬠view. I think that each of these quite different approaches helped Christians interpret the Scripture, the New Testament as well as the Old Testament, with more diverse angles and thus extend the range of the applicability to a particular context. Fewell and Gunnââ¬â¢s scope allows Christians to embrace the contemporary value system that didnââ¬â¢t exist in the Ancient Near Eastern context or around the beginning of Christian Community. In todayââ¬â¢s world, to apply the text to our context, we are required to deal with, for example, the religious conflicts, human rights of minority group, and ethical issues in scientific development that were not found in the Biblical context. In this respect, Fewell and Gunn look at the text with the methodology of modern feministic and moralistic view. They point out the patriarchal context of the text in which the male voice dominates the whole society and thus Dinahââ¬â¢s life was controlled by men, menââ¬â¢s right and menââ¬â¢s honor. According to Fewell and Gunnââ¬â¢s perspective, there is a much contrary view between Dinah and Shechem. While Shechem favors Dinah in his talking about her, Dinah is silent. Thus, Fewell and Gunn argue that Dinah was taken against her will because she has no voice in the story, and no one will allow her to have a voice. Sternberg, on the contrary, focuses on the text itself, especially the poetic narrative in the terms of a matter of textual coverage, a matter of patterning, and a matter of the language. In the case study, Sternberg observes the narratorââ¬â¢s reticence in the terminology that expresses the heart of Dinah and Shechemââ¬â¢s statement for Dinah. Sternberg argues that author tried to emphasize the marginalized position of woman in a biblical artistic sense, and the objection to ââ¬Å"exogamousâ⬠marriage in the Bibleââ¬â¢s distinctive doctrine. This required Christians to consider the literary aspect of expression of the biblical texts to interpret the genuine meaning of the text. If Christians ignore this and fall only into the contemporary value system, they might lose the core message of the Bible that they believe as Christian. For instance, four different gospels illuminate quite different styles of the same story. This is likely because each author of the gospels had different educational backgrounds and thus employed their own ways of delivery. To develop a better understanding of the passages, Christians have to learn each authorââ¬â¢s literary technique. Also, in doing so, Christians could find how each authorââ¬â¢s view would bring them various ways of practice in our context. Sternbergââ¬â¢s view also looks quite related to Bechtelââ¬â¢s argumentation in light of the reference to the socio-cultural context. Bechtel invited us to look into the characteristic of group-orientation which values the boundary in which an individual finds the identity of the members. Females played a key role in keeping the strong boundary in terms of perpetuating the ancestral lineage, the family, and the group. In this sense, Bechtel contends that Dinahââ¬â¢s case might have not been a rape, and to support this, Bechtel provides different usage of the Hebrew word ââ¬Ënhââ¬â¢(to put down, humble, raped in modern translation) and then finds that there were no implications of violence in the text. Bechtelââ¬â¢s view allows Christian to keep them from ignoring the authorââ¬â¢s context, the Ancient Israel context. Interpreting the meaning of the Bible entails the process of examining the historicity. In reading 1 Cor. 14:34 (ââ¬Å"women should be silent in the churchesâ⬠), for example, the reader might view Paul as androcentric. Paulââ¬â¢s focus in this Text, however, lies in preserving in peace and order in the churches. If we examine the context of this text, we can find that Paulââ¬â¢s comment does not mean the gender orientation. Rather, Paulââ¬â¢s message seems to indicate the order or culture of the churches. In this respect, it seems that misapplication comes from the lack of knowledge of the Biblical context or focus only on the contemporary way of thinking in doing practice the text. Overall, considering these three different approaches, the Bible gives Christians the diverse and balanced ground to interpret the Text, and also to apply it to the varied contexts in our world. I think that these three different approaches are not only the fruit of the scholarsââ¬â¢ efforts in theology world, but also they are the characteristic or role of the Bible that has been just found by many Christians.

Fundamental of Security Technology
Question: Describe about history of biometric security, applications of biometric security system, effectiveness of biometric security System and issues of biometric security system. Answer: History of Biometric Security In the contemporary era, security technology has been developed in a significant manner, which has ensured the safety as well as privacy of essential data and other important aspects. Moreover, development of security technology also has enhanced the features of cryptography technology, which usually used in case of maintaining information security. In this context, Hassanain, Shaarawy and Hesham (2010) argued that through emphasizing towards cryptographic algorithms key length, complexity and resistance techniques it would be possible to verify the authentication of legitimate user and unauthorized user (Jain Nandakumar, 2012). On the other hand, implication of biometric security also may prevent data loss and data accessibility to an unauthorized member. In order to highlight the history of biometrics security, it can be asserted that thousand years before human usually used voice, gait and face of the individuals with an intention of recognizing proper identity. Based on that particular idea, biometric security technology has been introduced, which usually used for identification and verification purpose. In the contemporary era, biometric algorithms are designed in such a manner, which usually help to detect fingerprint, face, hand geometry, voice and IRIS among others. Applications of Biometric Security System Similarly, in order to highlight the applications of biometric security, it can be asserted that biometric security vastly used in case of commercial applications such as electronic data security, e-commerce and computer network logins and internet access among others. Apart from this, biometric security also used in case of cellular phones and ATMs and credit cards physical access control purpose (Hassanain, Shaarawy Hesham, 2010). On the contrary, it is also viewed that biometric security also used in case of government associated applications such as drivers licenses, border control, passport control, social security and in case of national ID cards (Kanak Sogukpinar, 2012). In accordance with Hong and Jung (2014), traditionally biometric security system has been used in case of commercial applications based on knowledge based approach for the identification or recognition of PINs and passwords. However, in the contemporary era government applications are also using biometric security system based on ID cards and badges for identification of authorized accessibility (Jain Nandakumar, 2012). Similarly, the forensic applicant is also using security tokens during the data and information access purpose. Based on the viewpoint of Biggio et al. (2015) it is recognized that biometric security system is relied on certain parameters such as uniqueness, collectability, universality, permanence, performance, acceptability and circumvention. For an instance, each person having a unique DNA and it is impossible to make a duplicate of it (Barman, Samanta Chattopadhyay, 2015). Thus, it can be stated that biometric security may ensure the authentic access on a database. Similarly, parameter indicates unique characteristics of a person such as retinal and iris identity, which is cannot be replicated. Thus, biometric security may ensure the safety or confidentiality of any personnel data, which is projected by the help of biometric password. Similarly, collectability is being considered as one of the key parameters, which usually helps to identify the characteristic and traits of an individual. In relation to this, it can be asserted that through emphasizing towards the biometric security, it is possible to ensure the accuracy and robustness of a verification process (Kanak Sogukpinar, 2012). Consequently, it is also viewed that through concentrating on acceptability, it is possible to prevent the chances of failure in case of verification process and it also ensure validate acceptance on a biometric technologies. Effectiveness of Biometric Security System Through the help of biometric security system, it is possible to recognize and identity authentic process, which ensures high security in case of secured computer and doors. Thus, it can be claimed that through the help of biometric security system, individuals may mitigate data loss associated risk and problems in a more effective as well as efficient manner (Barman, Samanta Chattopadhyay, 2015). In relation to this, it can be claimed that through adoption of biometric security it is possible to minimize the burden of complicated and long password necessities of the individuals, by saving time and investment. Issues of Biometric Security System Though biometric security systems have lot of effectiveness in its application still it shows lot of issues also, during its performance. Most of the manufacturers are claiming that there is no problem with their products but the most common issues that happen with their devices are the recognition problems. In recent time it is found that the common problem of the biometric security are lifted finger prints, making a gummy eyeball, or attempting to mimic someones gait that are not recognized by the device even they are original. This type of problem is not only slows or hinder the process but it also raise question on its security (Kanak Sogukpinar, 2012). Recent technological advancement is the main issue for the biometric user because they are easily making fake identification for biometric device that can have unauthorized usage and loss of data. 3d Glasses Essay Essay Example
3d Glasses Essay Paper Informative Speech November 15, 2011 CMM 101 E General Purpose: to inform Specific Purpose Statement: To inform my audience of two methods used for 3-D viewing. (concept) CT: There are two different methods used for 3-D viewing: anaglyphs and polarization. (chronological) Introduction: (When I was a little girl about 4 years old I had a toy that allowed me to see images in 3-D. The toy was red and looked a lot like a pair of binoculars. I could put different white circular cut outs in, each with a different set of pictures. If I clicked a little orange lever the picture would change. (Marshal Brain, founder of howstuffworks. com, which won him 4 awards including Yahoos best science and technology resource in 2004, explains how the toy I am describing and binocular vision works. The toy is called a view master or stereoscopic viewer. The view master imitates how our eyes already work, by using binocular vision. Our eyes are about 2 ? inches apart giving them slightly different views a t the same time allowing for depth perception. ) (ââ¬Å"People only see what they are prepared to see. â⬠, said classic American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson. Our brains and eyes are prepared to see life in 3 dimensions and pictures in 2 dimensions. We are unable to create a sense of depth perception for TV. and movies because both of our eyes are taking in the same image. (I went to see Lion King in 3-D with some friends. Katie had never seen a 3-D movie before. During the movie I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. I realized it was Katie raising her hand in front of her to touch the images. I laughed and she smiled back at me with a quick shrug of her shoulders. ) I had never really thought about how the producers created a 3-D effect before. Director James Cameron, the first director to produce two movies grossing over $ 1 billion announced, ââ¬Å"Every cinema will be capable of showing 3D movies in the next five years. â⬠While 3D may not yet be this exclus ive, 3-D technology has come a long way. (So how exactly do the images of Timon and Pumba singing Hakuna Mattatah seem to start dancing off the screen? ) We will be discussing two methods of 3-D viewing. First we will look at anaglyphs and then polarization. Transition: We all remember those silly cardboard glasses with one blue lens and one red one. They were used in things like comic books and found in cereal boxes. We could put them on and turn a distorted red and blue blurry image into a neat pop off the page clear picture. I. The first method used for 3-D viewing was anaglyphs. A. Anaglyphs were the earliest method of presenting theatrical 3-D. 1. In 1922 ââ¬Å"The Power of Loveâ⬠was the first 3-D movie. a. The movie used 2 camera two projector 3-D technology according to Internet Movie Database, developed by Harry K. Fairhall and Robert F. Elder at the Ambassador Hotel Theater in Los Angeles. B. Anaglyph systems do not require much specialized hardware. . According to director and writer Fred Wilder, anaglyphs take advantage of binocular viewing, by secluding each eye to take in a similar but separate image. a. Two images are shown simultaneously on one screen through separate filters. b. The images are seen through two matching filters in the lenses of the glasses. 2. Anaglyphs do not allow for full color viewing. Tr ansition:. According to Forbes and New York Times magazine writer Mary Bellis, who has been writing about inventors since 1997, the Polaroid was invented by Edwin Land in 1948, but didnt become very popular until 1965. People would rather see movies in color. It wasnt until the invention of the Polaroid that 3-D would be forever changed. II. The second method used for 3-D viewing is polarization. A. There are two types of polarization linear and circular, both allowing full color viewing. 1. The major feature polarization allows for is full color viewing. 2. The Oxford English dictionary defines polarization as with the use of an object, physics restrict the vibrations of a transverse wave, especially light wholly or partially to one direction. . Polarized light requires a device of some sort to block the vibrations in all directions except one. B. One type of polarization is linear. 1. Linear polarization uses differently polarized lights to create a 3-D effect, explains John Jerit, owner of American Paper Optics, a 3-D glasses manufacturer. a. Clear glasses with the similar polarization lenses are worn to filter t he opposing light sources. 2. Viewers must keep their heads level in order not to distort the image. a. Changing ones view perspective will cause channels to bleed into each other. C. A second type of polarization is circular. . Circular polarization works similarly to linear polarization. a. A major difference between the two types is the total number of images presented on the viewing screen. b. Circular polarization is the method used for RealD 3-D. Conclusion: 3-D started millions of years ago with the first humans to look around. We see life in 3-D, and now movies, television, and video games too. Now when you go to see your first or next 3-D movie you will know how images fly off the screen. However, you will probably still want to touch the objects flying at you like Katie did. TECHNOLOGY CHANGING POLITICAL DYNAMICS essays
TECHNOLOGY CHANGING POLITICAL DYNAMICS essays TECHNOLOGY CHANGING POLITICAL DYNAMICS "People Power II" as the events of January 17 to 20 are now called was different from first "People Power" in February 1986 in three key ways. First, "People Power I" resulted from manipulation of vote counting in the snap elections and triggered by a military faction that was forced to come out in the open after its coup plot was discovered, while "People Power II" resulted from a series of allegations of massive graft on the part of a president and triggered by perceived collusion among 11 Estrada administration-aligned senators to silence a move to present key evidence in the impeachment case. Second, it took almost two decades for civil society to respond forcefully to allegations of massive graft and corruption, human rights violations and a number of other crimes before "People Power I" erupted; and only a little less than three years for the same society to depose a leader who was perceived to be aping the object of hate of the first revolt. The third distinction, however, is a first in Philippine maybe even Asian and world revolutionary history: "People Power II" showed the power of the Internet and mobile communications technology not to mention broadcast media not only to shape public opinion but also to mobilize civil society when push came to a shove. Indeed, "People Power II" demonstrated how the Filipinos used these new technologies to topple an impeached official when the constitutionally prescribed impeachment process bogged down. True, the indispensable ingredient of an irate public pushed to the wall cannot be ignored in the equation. But the fact is it would have taken longer to mobilize people who were otherwise not included in the organized opposition had it not been for new technologies at the ready disposal of the man of the street. And in intense situations like the events that unfolded in those fateful five days of January, a few...

Quantitative Research - Article Example sures that the researcher is neutral and not biased to the positive or even the negative side but stands neutral in order to solve the problem at hand. The literature review should be relevant to the problem being looked into and well understood to the researcher. The researcher must be in a position to understand what is really required of him so as to solve the problem at hand. The review might as well as include some other investigations that have been carried out on the problem or a problem related to the one in question. After having understood the problem the researcher should be able to identify the variables that affect or interfere with the research. If the variables have an effect on the outcome, then he or she ought to have to ways to neutralize or reduce the effect of the variables to achieve the desired results. The variables may either be dependent or independent variable, where the independent variable is the effect variable set by the investigator and it may also be considered to as the factor while the dependent variable is the observed or effect variable that is not set by the investigator. The tentative prediction or explanation of relationship between two or more variables to the problem at hand must also be looked into. It helps the investigator to translate the statement of the problem into a precise and ambiguous prediction of the outcome. Some research ideas may not have a definable hypothesis especially when they are descriptive. Hypothesis statements are most applicable in intervention and evaluation studies where comparisons are done on correlation for relationships.
